Mbappe and Neymar doubtful to face Liverpool
The incident occurred 30 minutes into the match at Stade de France in Paris, with the game scoreless.
After Mbappe was sent in on goal, Uruguay goalkeeper MartÃn Campana rushed off his line to win the ball cleanly off the teenager's feet. Mbappe went down hard in the process and got up holding his shoulder, clearly in pain from the challenge.
Though the 19-year-old PSG star attempted to continue, he was quickly removed from the game in favour of Florian Thauvin.
The injury made Tuesday even worse for PSG, as Mbappe's club team-mate Neymar was also forced off with injury in Brazil's friendly against Cameroon.
The French side are currently third in Group C with just two matches remaining, sitting one point behind both Liverpool and Napoli.
Things are considerably more comfortable for PSG in Ligue 1, where the defending champions have already opened up a 13-point lead over second-place Lille.
With 13 wins from their first 13 games, PSG have set a record for the longest winning streak at the start of the season in any of Europe's top-five leagues.
Mbappe and Neymar have both been vital to their side this term. The 19-year-old has scored 13 goals in 13 total appearances, while the Brazil star has 13 goals in 15 appearances. Before PSG face Liverpool next Wednesday, they have a league match against Toulouse on Saturday.
Prior to Tuesday's matches, Mbappe was handed some surprising news as it was revealed that he is currently outside of the top five in voting for the 2018 Golden Boy award.
After winning the prize for Europe's best player under 21 years of age last year, Mbappe helped France to the World Cup and PSG to a domestic treble in 2018.
Neymar had to leave Brazil's match with a thigh injury, and the Ligue 1 champions will now be forced to sweat over the status of two of their biggest stars ahead of some vital fixtures. PSG face Liverpool in the Champions League next week, with progress to the last 16 hanging in the balance.
